The Return of Tulku Urgyen Yangsi Rinpoche

We are delighted to report that at 3:45pm, Saturday, November 21, 2009, Tulku Urgyen Yangsi Rinpoche arrived at Kathmandu’s Tribuvan Airport aboard an Indian Airlines flight direct from Delhi. Accompanied by his parents, Neten Chokling Rinpoche and Khandro Tendzin Chöyang Gyari, Yangsi Rinpoche was escorted to Nepal by Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Namdol Gyatso Lama and two attendants. So much joy and excitement was in the air! The afternoon was very reminiscent of Yangsi Rinpoche’s arrival at Tribuvan Airport in November 2008 when he landed in Nepal for the first time for the special occasion of his formal enthronement at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery.

At the airport, more than 30 lamas, nuns and laypeople made up the joyful welcoming party — including Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche and Phakchok Rinpoche, with their respective wives and families, as well as Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche. Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s wife and his mother were also present, as was Tenpa Yarphel and Tenpa’s son, Tashi. Ani Maya, head nun at Nagi Gompa and Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche’s close personal attendant for several decades, was also present to welcome Yangsi Rinpoche.

Just as he had done at the airport one year ago, Yangsi Rinpoche serenely and graciously accepted a kata (white scarf) from each person who had come to greet him. Smiling, he touched his forehead to theirs. Seeing this special child, a Nepali passerby in the crowd immediately stopped and bowed before him; Yangsi quickly responded by warmly touching his forehead to this fellow’s forehead, too.

would like to thank you for hosting me at Gomde and providing an opportunity to listen to PR's teachings.
I enjoyed very much both teaching and the atmosphere of the seminar. I wish all of upcoming seminars and retreats at Gomde will be fruitful and successful for everybody.

Phakchok Rinpoche told me that you plan to record a CD with audio of the seminar. I'd appreciate if you can share it, since Rinpoche advised that his students in Israel may listen to it.

Possibility of Khenpo visits from Nepal

Dear Dharma Friends,

On behalf of Rangjung Yeshe Institute, I send you many greetings in the hope that all your dharma activities are unfolding auspiciously and harmoniously. Here in Nepal we are inspired to learn from Rinpoche of the remarkable growth in the international Sangha and, in particular, the many study groups and retreat centers recently established.

As you may know, earlier this year RYI launched its first on-line learning programme designed to help students from around the world study the dharma with Ka Nying Shedrub Ling’s resident Khenpos and other teachers. An additional benefit of this programme is its potential to help bring the various study centres and monastery closer together.

In order to further this particular goal RYI is delighted to announce a new initiative to sponsor the international travel costs of the monastery’s two main Khenpos - Jampa Donden and Sherab Dorje – and so enable them to teach at affiliated Dharma centers and study groups. Under this scheme the only expenses each center would need to cover would be for local transportation, food, accommodation and donations to the Khenpo plus any translator related costs. Please note that the preferred timing for these visits each year will be from early December to the middle of January.

For this coming winter Khenpo Jampa Donden will travel to centres in Europe while, in 2010, both Jampa Donden and Sherab Dorje will be available to travel to Europe and the Americas respectively.

At this point, I would particularly appreciate learning whether your centre would like to host one of the Khenpos in the year ahead. More immediately, for centers and groups in Europe, please note that Khenpo Jampa Donden will be teaching in Austria from December 28, 2009 until January 6, 2010 but will otherwise be available to teach at other centres between December 11 – 26^th and between 7^th – 9^th January.

Please do let me know by 30^th November if you would like to take advantage of Khenpo Jampa’s visit this coming winter.

A reunion with Phakchok Rinpoche at Gomde November 14-15, 2009.

Dear friends.

Last year when Phakchok Rinpoche visited Gomde he taught the Heart Sutra, during which he linked direct meditation experience with the text.

He also explained the wonderful and deep Lotus Essence Tantra.
This year we will have a further deepening of the Buddha's instructions in sutra and tantra.

We have asked Rinpoche that he again uses these two very concise and short texts as a basis. But he has free hands and you who have have met him know how he can bring in all contemporary issues and examples in order to make his teachings both lively and fun.

At Gomde we are making ready for Rinpoche and for all you participants. It is practical and convenient for us to buy food in good time so there is enough of the exciting eco-vegetarian dishes for all of you.

We've made it extra cheap for you to participate.
Reckon with a total for both days of 700 DKK: 500 DKK in donations for teachings to Rinpoche plus 200 DKK to Gomde which includes all meals.
Lodge costs extra 200 DKK for dormitory or 400 DKK for bed in a room, for the whole weekend.

Rinpoche arrives at Gomde 20.30 Friday evening and will be welcomed with tea in the temple.
You are welcome to be there to receive him.

Teachings start Saturday 10:00, and continue again 16.00 until dinner.
Sunday he begins 10:00 and concludes 18:00.

Sidste år da Phakchok Rinpoche besøgte Gomde fik vi undervisning i Hjerte Sutraen, hvor han kædede direkte meditationsoplevelse sammen med teksten.

Han gennemgik også den vidunderlige og dybe Lotus Essence Tantra.
I år får vi en videre uddybning af Buddhas anvisninger i sutra og tantra.

Vi har bedt Rinpoche om at han igen bruger disse to meget sammenfattede og korte tekster som grundlag. Men han har jo frie hænder og I, som har mødt ham, ved hvordan han kan bringe alle nutidige emner og eksempler ind, for at gøre undervisningen både levende og sjov.

På Gomde er vi ved at gøre parat til Rinpoche og til alle jer deltagere. Det er rart og praktisk at kunne købe mad ind i god tid. Der skal jo være nok af de spændende øko-vegetar retter.

Phakchok Rinpoche's tulkus "emanation-basis"

Phachok Rinpoche is the son of Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, a blazing siddha who performed the wrathful fire puja on the north at Chagdud Rinpoche’s cremation. He is the elder brother of the incarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He was recognized as the seventh incarnation of one of the principal masters of the monastery of Taklung Martang in Riwoche, Tibet. Rinpoche completed his studies at Dzongsar Institute in Bir and has received many transmissions from all the great masters. He is a dynamic force among Western students in Nepal.

Phakchok Rinpoche's emanation-basis is the Lord of Secrets Dharmevajra, the compiler of the teachings of the Great Secrets (Vajrayana) of all buddhas; the arhat Ananda, the foremost disciple of our teacher (Buddha Shakyamuni); Lhalung Palgyi Dorje, the direct disciple of the Second Buddha of Uddiyana (Padmasambhava); (Rechung) Dorje Drakpa, the lord of siddhas; and many others. ... ...

Dear friends,

Since 1981, when Tulku Urgyen and Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche wanted translations of Padmasambhava pratices and Calling the Guru from Afar, we produced 50 practice booklets and commentaries at their monastery in Boudha.

Gradually they appeared in A5 format under Rangjung Yeshe Translations & Publications, thanks to the help of Graham Sunstein and Michael Tweed.

Fotografisk udstilling ”Et Nyt Nepal”

Fotograf Stephen Freiheit har undervist 60 nepalesere i alderen 12-21 år i fotografi og det er der kommet en række beskrivende og dybt personlige billeder ud af. De unge nepalesere har fotograferet udstukne emner i deres hjemby, Kathmandu og alt fra hinduistiske begravelsesritualer til demonstrationer, mere hjemlige situationer, religioner og pulserende byliv i et af verdens yngste demokratier har været i de unge, kommende fotografers søgelys.

En række af billederne er samlet i udstillingen ”Et Nyt Nepal”, som åbnes fredag af Nepals Ambassadør i Danmark, Vijay Kant Lal Karna, på Kvarterhuset i Heimdalsgade.

”Et Nyt Nepal” udstillingen sættes endvidere op i Kathmandu i februar 2010, hvor Stephen Freiheits nyindstiftede årlige pris ”Young Photographer of the Year” uddeles ved samme lejlighed.

Nyhedsbrev fra Gomde DK august

Kære Sangha familie.

Først og fremmest tak for en dejlig SummerCamp 2009.

Det var et vidunderligt besøg med Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. Hans ualmindelige hjertevarme og visdom strålede. Rinpoche delte generøst ud af sit store skatkammer og vi fik alt hvad vi havde brug for, både begyndere og erfarne. Rinpoche gav mange gode råd og især bad os om at praktisere autentisk, vedholdende og medfølende.

Det var også i år at vi tog skridtet til at invitere flere af Rinpoches senior elever til at undervise. Vi nød glæde af Lama Olav, Antonia, Simon, Mikael, Magnus, Göran, Dorje, Erik Meier og Erik Pema, hver i deres egen stil. Mange deltagere bad om at denne form bliver gentaget fremover.

Lama Tenzin underviste også igen fantastisk i Vajrayana praksis. Specielt i Ngøndro og sadhana praksis. Det er altid en dejlig fornøjelse at have Lama Tenzin på Gomde.

Økonomisk var det også et SummerCamp med ret pænt overskud takket være jeres gavmildhed.

Ani Dekyi Chodron’ s to retreats, Grøn Tara retreat og Chö I og II er gået virkelig fint. Ani Dekyi er en dygtig underviser og vi har nydt godt af hendes gode erfaring.


Det ser ud til at hun er ved at danne sig en større gruppe, der bare ikke vil undvære hendes kærlige og indsigtsfulde måde at undervise og guide på.

Det er spændende at vi er ved at have en gruppe Chö praktiserende på Gomde. Vi vil følge op på dette ved at holde en Chö weekend engang i mellem.

Arrangementet var også denne gang finansieret af sanghaens velvillighed ved at der var mulighed for at donere til Ani Dekyi’ s billet og ved frivilligt arbejde. Tusind tak til alle glade givere.

Efteråret på Gomde:

Erik holder to weekender i sep. og okt. i Buddhas veje, hvor han forklarer Dharmaen på forståeligt dansk.

Antonia holder i nov. et uges Karuna kursus for læger, psykologer og behandlere.

Vi har også fire eksterne kurser med skuespillerinden Katrine Faber som underviser i stemmetræning.

I november får vi besøg af Phakchok Rinpoche. Han vil undervise i Lotus Essence Tantra og meditation. Ligesom sidste år Rinpoche var i Danmark ønsker vi at gøre Rinpoches besøg så åbent og tilgængeligt for så mange mennesker som muligt.

Derfor er der mulighed allerede nu for at donere til hans billet. Vi foreslår en donation på 200kr eller 5ookr. (se info-linket på Gomdes forside)

Gomde projekter:

Alter byggeri. Vi har nu sparet 35.000 kr. sammen gennem cafe’ og boutique, samt alter- og diverse private donationer. Desuden har Mads gavmildt tilbudt at betale for alt træet der er brug for i bedste kvalitet.

Hvis du har lyst til at deltage i det uimodståelige projekt at skabe det smukkeste alter, designet af CNRinpoche selv, så skriv endelig til os. Det bliver lavet i enkel skandinavisk/japansk stil. Vi har brug for tømrere, snedkere, tovholdere og alt muligt folk.

Vi vil også gerne invitere/opfordre til at skrive dig på som hjælper til køkkenet ved kurser og arrangementer eller at hjælpe til med rengøringen bagefter et kursus.

Lad os lave en liste vi kan ringe rundt til og høre om du/I har tid til at hjælpe et par gange om året. Der er brug for hver eneste af jer.

Forlængelsens stueetage er stadig ikke færdig, så hvis du vil hjælpe med det projekt er det også en mulighed. Der er brug for en murer, elektriker og malere.

Vi har købt stof til at betrække alle puder i templet i et smukt stykke mørkerødt stof. Har du lyst til at sy betræk til templets puder, så skriv og vær med enten fra Gomde eller derhjemme.


På lørdag d.5 september arbejder vi æbleplantagen. Der skal ryddes ud i rækkerne så vi bedre kan komme til æblerne. Kom og vær med. Erik laver frokost til alle der hjælper til.

Vi vil løbende invitere til arbejdsweekend. Vi forventer at der bliver lavet en masse arbejde og til gengæld vil vi sørge for et dejligt værelse at sove i og skøn veltilberedt mad. Skriv til gomde@gomde.dk og evt. fortæl om dine talenter og hvor ofte du kan hjælpe til.

Vi arbejder meget på at sørge for en inspirerende meditativ stemning på Gomde. Vi synes efterhånden at have en struktur som befordrer til besøg og for individuelle retreats. I kan gøre brug af den mulighed ved at bl.a. gennemgå ngøndro forløbets transformation, og ved at komme oftere på besøg og lave endnu flere retreats.

Det er i alles interesse at Gomde udvikler sig, så her kan summe af liv, meditativ indsigt og god energi. Det er det Gomde er her for.

Gomde hosts three retreats with the female lama Ani Dekyi Chodron. She is a personal disciple of the renowned and much loved meditation master Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and she has completed the traditional three-year retreat. And she is very sweet.

Rangjung Yeshe Institute is pleased to announce the launch of its Online Buddhist Studies program - making the Buddhist classics available to anyone, anywhere.

The inaugural course provides students with traditional teachings on Nāgārjuna’s Knowledge—Root of the Middle Way (Mūlamadhyamakakārikā); perhaps the most important Buddhist philosophical scripture of the Indian tradition. Additional lectures and discussion groups provide a broader historical and cultural context for assimilating the teachings in today’s world.

Classes may be taken for academic credit.

Registration for the fall semester 2009 is now open!

With the Blessings of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Rangjung Yeshe U.K. in overjoyed to announce an agreement to purchase the Lindholme Hall Estate ( Lindholme Island) as a place to meditate, study and practice the sacred dharma.

The purchase was agreed on the auspicious day of 22 July 2009--- the day of the total solar eclipse and a new moon day.

The Lindholme Island is a glacial moraine deposited at the end of the last ice age. The 120 acres are comprised of grasslands and woodlands comprised of ancient oaks and scots pine. The land is surrounded by the 3500 acre Hatfield moor, a part of the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve which is protected from development and home to a number of rare and endangered species of mammal, bird, and invertebrate.

Lindholme Hall with 18 rooms, formal gardens,walled vegetable garden and numerous outbuildings is in the center of Lindholme Island .

Lama Deki Chodron på Gomde.

Lama Deki Chodron vil igen i år komme og give undervisning og lede retreats på Gomde.

Deki Chodrön har brugt det meste af hendes liv på at studere og praktisere meditation i Nagi Gompa under vejledning af Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, og Chokling Rinpoche. Hun er ansvarlig for vigtige områder af klosterets virke, og har gennemført den traditionelle 3 års meditationspraksis som foregår i fuldstændig afsondrethed.

Nonnerne fra Nagi Gompa er kyndige i Chokling Tersar traditionen, og er specielt kendt for Chö-praksis, en meditations-træning, der stammer fra den kvindelige yogi Machig Labdrøn. Denne træning har som formål at skære igennem enhver bundethed til ideen om et ego, og nonnerne udfører den i en enestående form for meditativ sang og dans, som stammer fra Longchenpa.

Du mødte Lama Deki under sommerseminaret, hvor hun ledte morgen og eftermiddags praksis.

I August kommer Lama Deki igen, undervisningen er for alle, dog vil deltagelse i Chö 2 forudsætte at du har deltaget i Chö undervisning før.

The Kumari program is still rock and roll at Gomde DK.

After a wonderful "Concise daily"
Padmasambhava retreat with Lama Tenzin and a lot of lung, the Kumari's has now started at the Ngøndro retreat guided by Dorje.

Two days with prostrations, two days with Vajrasattva meditation, two days with mandala offering and two days with Guru yoga.
5 hours a day!

Last day of SummerCamp '09

This summer was the first time Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche opened up the Great Hearing Lineage of the Heart Essence. Rinpoche gave the first introduktion from the lineage of Longchenpa. On the sky this appeared as people went oup the enjoy lunch.
