The Seminar
We are delighted to announce a 4-day seminar with Phakchok Rinpoche at Gomde, Denmark. Rinpoche will teach on the topic ‘Pure Perception: Living in a Mandala’.

In this seminar, Phakchok Rinpoche will expand on these principles and how to apply it to our daily lives.

H.E. Kilung Jigme Tendzin Chodrak Rinpoche i Dødebogens introduktion

A letter from Phakchok Rinpoche
Dear All,
How have you all been? Happy and Healthy, I hope.
Today is again Guru Rinpoche Day, but a special one. It was during the 10th of this lunar month back in the 8th century, when Guru Rinpoche first arrived into Tibet on the invitation of King Trisong Deutsen with the suggestion of the great Indian Buddhist master, Shantarakshita to subdue the local hostile negative forces and to consecrate the great monastery of Samye and to forever plant the unshakable seed of sacred Buddha Dharma. He was thus known as Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born Guru.
The 38th King or the 2nd of the Three Dharma Kings of Tibet, Trisong Deutsen was indeed pivotal in introducing Buddhism to Tibet and hence a great king, yet a simple 11th century yogi states that there is simply no king like him. In a beautiful musical score titled “faith”, which a friend of mine gave me, I first heard about the above statement. In which, Sogyal Rinpoche recites the life and liberation of this extraordinary great yogi so eloquently that tears of devotion naturally outpours.
And it goes something like this: (verbatim)
Milarepa said, I am a king, yet no king like me
I have such wealth
Milarepa as you know was Tibet’s great saint, yogi and poet
Who inspired millions of people
But he spent the years in retreat in the humblest condition
Wearing just a lounge cloth and eating nettles
So much that his body became emaciated and became almost green
Yet he says, I am a king and yet no king like me
I have such wealth
I have the seven attributes that lead to enlightenment
I have the eight noble path
This is my wealth
My treasure house is filled with these riches
I have the sky above as my castle
I have the ground below as my state
I am the happiest king in the world
This is what Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche use to say
Once when you have this view
All the delusory perception of samsara may rise in your mind
And be like the sky
When the rainbow appears in front of it
You are not particularly flattered
And when the clouds appear, when the dark clouds appear
You are not particularly disappointed either
There is a deep sense of contentment
And you chuckle from inside
As you see the façade of samsara and nirvana
This view will keep you constantly amused
Like a little smile bubbling away all the time
Enjoy yourself, this self
And you’ll be happy
And I wish you that
I wish you my deepest wish that you discover that for yourself
This great treasure
And you keep bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, bubbling and become contagious also
The lines above by Rinpoche are simple yet profound in their meaning. For those of you who need to refresh your memory on the seven attributes and the eight noble paths, here’s a brief overview:
The Seven Attributes: (Qualities)
Faith, discipline, generosity, learning, a sense of moral shame, a sense of ethical conscience to oneself, and intelligence.
The Noble Eightfold Path leading to the cessation of suffering:
Right view, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.
Enjoy and have a wonderful day!
Sarva Mangalam,
Phakchok Rinpoche

Phakchok Rinpoche: The difference between the mind section and the wisdom section
Dear Everyone,
Today I thought I’d answer a question that I get asked quite frequently by students, the difference between the mind section and the wisdom section.
In the mind section, the key is noticing. It is extremely important to notice negative emotions. There is a difference between judgment and noticing. When you have judgment then your emotions arise because judgment comes with duality. When you notice the emotions don’t arise because you don’t follow the second thought, it is only recognition of a negative emotion, nothing more.
The wisdom section can be categorized into the appearance of wisdom and essential wisdom. The appearance of wisdom is free from duality, from bad and good. Don’t think that it is bad if you have a negative emotion and good when you have a positive emotion. After all whether if it’s positive or negative, it is just an emotion, which is impermanent. One must participate in pure perception. See all emotions, positive and negative with pure perception and hence neither good nor bad. Essential wisdom on the other hand involves less judgment and without engaging. Not clinging onto the emotions, not holding onto the emotions, just letting them be. If you hold onto the emotions once they arise and do not let them dissolve naturally then that is not essential wisdom. Notice them and let them be. They will dissolve on their own, naturally. This is important to understand and practice. This is the essential teaching.
Right now I am in the very south of Brazil, near Port Alegra at Khandro Ling. Today with the sangha here we auspiciously performed Guru Rinpoche’s Shower of Blessing tsok offering. During the tsok offering I thought of you all and had you all in my heart, praying for your long life, good health, and prosperity.
Sarva Mangalam,
Phakchok Rinpoche

Spontaneous doha celebrating Erik
For fear of using the wrong word, I find myself
Lipreading the dharma, dripping from the crystalline heart
Teacher of the unspeakable,
Authorised only by compassion
After so long being pregnant.
Clouds touch ground, the sky clears leaving the subtlety of joy obvious.
Orbiting, and nothing stays still.
Stillness is yet another death wish
Spat away from the event horizon of a laughing black hole.
You make it easy to not be overly humble,
Though still I am.
That is the way valleys stand
To mountains,
The word is auspicious,

Yesterday, at the end of giving the Padmasambhava empowerment, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche officially authorized Erik Pema Kunsang as a Dharma teacher.
To seal it Rinpoche handed his personal vajra and bell to Erik.

Gomde Apple Day 2010
Today is wonderful - great fresh apple juice picked in the organic apple orchard at Gomde Denmark by Rinpoche and a joyful group of his students. The first apple chosen is the Ingrid Marie apple which gives a beautiful pale pink hue - sweet with a aftertaste of heaven. It is known as the national apple of Denmark, has firm white flesh and red skin. The juice was made on location.
The orchard has about a thousand trees of a wide variety of sorts. OH YES!!!
Thanks to René Kimose for the photos.

Photos from Gomde's Apple Orchards

In preparation for Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche's visit to Gomde next week (Oct 1-4) for the Apple Harvest and Seminar, things have been busy at Gomde.
Last weekend the buildings were painted in an old, Danish traditional way of mixing copperas with the limestone, resulting in a beautiful, warm golden colour, very similar to farm houses in the hills of Nepal. The orchards have also been cleaned up and cleared so we will be able to easily have access to the apple and pear trees. Hopefully there will still be ripe blackberries to be eaten in between the fruit picking!
The apple orchards are nestled within Gomde’s forty-seven acres of beautiful varied landscape with many old apple and pear trees, small lakes and rolling hills.
Some photos have been included below to give everyone a taste of what is in store next weekend.
We hope that many of you will be able to come and meet a genuine Tibetan Buddhist master, join the harvest celebration and enjoy the natural and picturesque beauty of Gomde on Helgenæs.
Bring your children as well as there will be many fun activities for them on Saturday and Sunday, including kite making, apple bobbing and nature treasure hunt.

Letter from Phakchok Rinpoche
Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Evening,
Where ever you all are, I hope that you have all been well and happy. And now here is my friendly reminder on this Guru Rinpoche Day.
A genuine motivation leads to a genuine practice.
Practicing the dharma is very important, but at the same time, you need to know how to practice the dharma properly. Just by doing some kind of practice or meditation or reciting a sadhana like a daily chore is not sufficient.
In order to practice the dharma well, it is most essential to have a pure motivation, a selfless motivation. A motivation that is drawn specifically towards benefitting all sentient beings:
May all sentient beings find happiness and the causes of happiness.
May all sentient beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.
When you practice the dharma, it is also very important to be mindful of your emotions and your chain of thoughts. Watch them close. See and reflect. How is that negative emotion arising? While arising, how soon are you getting attached to it? And how soon is your mood shifting? How easy to be changed, this mind, your mind!
Maintaining the practice is to know how to reduce the negative emotions.
Being free from mood swings and fleeting emotions.
Being free from this kind of impermanence.
Therefore, just look.
For those of you who think you don’t need to practice the above method thinking you are somewhat superior, the very fact that this thought occurred, I would like to specifically urge this “SUPERIOR YOU” to constantly check and reflect.
More so,
We all like to think.
We all like to feel.
We all like to do what we like.
All based on the likes of this glorious “I”.
But where is this liking coming from?
Where is this liking now?
And where is this liking going?
What a marvelous display of the mind!
The problem is itself created by the mind.
The problem is itself solved by the mind.
By resting in the natural state of the mind,
You are naturally freed from the entrapments of the mind.
This is taught by the Great Masters of the past, repeatedly.
In order to receive their blessings and take to heart their generous advice rooted deeply in the most genuine of motivation, you should follow them and work towards making your practice genuine and grounded. And the key here is meditation and more meditation.
The timing doesn’t matter, at first just sit and meditate. No matter what your experiences are, don’t get attached to them. Just sit and watch.
This is my simple and abrupt message on this Guru Rinpoche Day.
Sarva Mangalam,
Phakchok Rinpoche
