Tenshuk for Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

At 8:00am on Saturday March 19th, the high Lamas and monastic assembly of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery paused in their performance of the annual 9-day Great Accomplishment Sadhana of White Amitayus in order to offer a special "tenshuk," or Long Life ceremony, for the monastery's abbot, Kyabje Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche. Here some highlights from the 3 hour ceremony.

Invitation til udstilling af buddhistiske relikvier 1. – 3. April 2011 i København

Sjældne buddhistiske relikvier udstilles i

København den 1. - 3. April 2011

Relikvierne tilhører Lama Zopa Rinpoche, leder af den internationale organisation The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT).

- Hans Hellighed Dalai Lama

According to the Tibetan calendar, Kyabje Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche will be 61 this year of the Rabbit, the return of his birth animal year. Tibetan astrology indicates that this return is considered a heavy year.

Therefore, during the annual 9-day White Amitayus Drubchen, Kyabjes Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche and Yangsi Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, together with the sangha of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery and the mandala of its related monasteries and retreat centers will offer the traditional Tenshuk ceremony to Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche on Full Moon Day, the 15th day of the Month of Miracles, Saturday March 19th, 2011, with heartfelt prayers for his long life, for his life-force to remain stable, and for his enlightened activity to unceasingly benefit all beings.

All those connected to Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche are most welcome to join us here in our main temple!

Those of you who are unable to be here can still join the event, wherever you are. Making heartfelt prayers for Rinpoche’s long life is a wonderful way to join the ceremony from afar.

The entire ceremony will be filmed and available the next day for viewing at www.DharmaSun.org so everyone will be able to view the entire offering online.

From Phakchok Rinpoche

Dear All Near and Far,

I hope you have all been happy and healthy. I'm writing to you all from Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery where at present we are performing the annual Tsekar (White Amitayus/Buddha of Longevity) Drubchen (great accomplishment), a nine day ceremony based on a collection of liturgies belonging to the "Great Accomplishment Group Sadhana of White Amitayus". This drubchen beginning on the 8th day of the fist lunar month of the Tibetan New Year brings forth auspicious circumstances for the practitioners two fold attainment of longevity and primordial wisdom.

When talking about auspicious circumstances for practitioners, the most perfect circumstance for realizing the correct view of emptiness is through generating complete non judgmental and genuine devotion to all the enlightened ones and to cultivate unbound and un fabricated compassion for all sentient beings. Some of you may be practitioners, some interested in practicing and some just receiving this message as a junk, to which I deeply apologize. For you practitioners and for those who are interested in practicing, when you do the practice, you need to have a certain goal or a boundary or a limit to where you want to reach. As mentioned countless times in my previous notes, devotion is key. For devotion, you need to have unerring certainty in the dharma, grounded pure perception, and finally heartfelt kindness of the teachers and the teachings. With these intact, devotion will naturally arise. In the moment of devotion, we should sincerely bring to mind our root gurus along with the lineage gurus and think of their great qualities and with great admiration, supplicate to them. Knowing that it is only through the kindness of the gurus that we'll be able to understand the ultimate nature of the mind, with such great gratitude, genuine devotion should naturally arise. Devotion should be applied through supplication; physically through putting your palms together, verbally through chanting the supplication, and mentally by aspiring to become a good practitioner in any condition whether in happiness or in sorrow. Your devotion shouldn't be judgmental as well. If it is, then your devotion is not pure. Devotion is actually a measurement of how deep your understanding of your realization of emptiness is.

Although all sentient beings possess the self existing wisdom, they are unaware of it and as a result beaten relentlessly in the illusory experiences of samsara and suffer tremendously. When seeing such, one should overcome with great compassion and pity. At a moment like this, one should genuinely aspire with great compassion for all sentient beings to be free from suffering and the cause of suffering. Compassion should be without bounds, without attachment, without judgement, without hope and well grounded.

On this 10th day of the first month of the Iron Rabbit Year, Guru Rinpoche renounces his kingdom, practices yoga and meditation in the great charnel ground of Sitavana and attains liberation. Gathering under the matrikas and dakinis, he is known as Guru Shantarakshita.

Keeping you all in my mind on this auspicious day of the auspicious month of the auspicious year!

Sarva Mangalam,

Phakchok Rinpoche

The Buddha Hall has a new floor - rejoice!

35 DAYS TRINLEY NYINGPO RETREAT with Lama Tenzin Sangpo

The second 35 Day Trinley Nyingpo Padmasambhava Retreat at Gomde Denmark March 29- May 2, 2011

A traditional 35 Day Trinley Nyingpo Retreat is to take place. Following Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche’s advice the retreat will be a traditional, closed retreat with all participants completing the full 35 days.

On the guidance of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche the retreat will be undertaken in a traditional and authentic way. The retreat will be guided by Lama Tenzin Sangpo who has great knowledge and experience of the practice. Practice will be structured into four daily sessions; two group sessions and two individual sessions. Gomde will be closed to outside visitors during the retreat.

Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, himself a lineage holder of these teachings, said of this cycle of teachings:

“.. the terma is fresh and being practiced by great masters at the beginning, it is always the case that there are great blessings because the ‘vapour of the Dakinis’ breath’ has not yet had time to evaporate from the terma. In this way, terma teachings with a short lineage have a particularly great blessing and effect for those who practice them.”

Lama Tenzin Sangpo was born in the area of Tingri in Tibet in the year 1967. In 1976, after his escape from Tibet, he received ordination and the traditional education at Chokyi Nyima's monastery Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling in Boudhanath, Kathmandu. Among other things he has successfully completed a traditional three-years retreat, and he is one of the most respected lamas of the monastery.

He is extremely versed in the various buddhist philosophies, and he is an expert in tantric practice. In Denmark, Russia, Israel and Malaysia he acted as a recitation master in extensive buddhist ceremonies.
